[ Abstract ]
This text deals with theoretical and methodical issues related
to the conservation of industrial heritage. It discusses the
disciplinary integration to deal with themes of industrial
archaeology and industrial heritage. Then, questions of
methodology are analysed and, finally, aspects of restoration
and the role of architecture within the articulation of several
disciplines are debated. The aim is to draw attention to the
need to discuss methodology and reflect on the instruments of
restoration to deal with industrial heritage today, mobilizing
the theoretical principles in a conscientious manner in order to
face the renewed questions that arise in practice. Cultural
assets, including those linked to the industrialization process,
anchor individuals and social groups in time and space; treating
them recklessly results in deformation of elements that carry
knowledge and support memorial and symbolic aspects, which can
cause problems for both individuals and the community,
evidencing the need to act responsibly.
