[ Abstract ]
On February 22, 2012 Sarmiento line's train formation of the
Buenos Aires´s metropolitan railway system collided with the
terminal station causing the collapse of the formation and a
balance of 789 injured and 52 fatalities. The production of this
event showed the degradation that the railroads had in their
history, which enabled the railway issue associated with
security in the quality of service to be installed on the
public, political and judicial agenda. This article is concerned
with exploring the multiple attributions given to the notion of
security by surviving passengers of Once, problematizing what
extent these emerge later in the (re) construction of their
daily urban mobility related to the railway. Methodology is
based on self-documented interviews and ones documented by
others, to relatives of victims and survivors. In addition to
the use of own surveys, official statistics, press, audiovisual
and archival records related to the event.
