[ Abstract ]

Pablo de Alzola was a man of his time. As a road engineer, he was present in the development and projection of the principal lines of narrow rail that were constructed in the Basque Country. This experience, combined with his work as a technician and manager of the Triano mining railroad, allowed him to undertake projects to reform tariff laws and railway tariffs, leading the main associations of industrial producers from Bizkaia and Spain. His reflections and intellectual legacy remain as an example for future generations of engineers and scholars of a time of profound changes and emergence of new economic paradigms.
