[ Abstract ]
This paper deals with a case study and is included in the international debate from a mixed perspective that combines geopolitics and business history. It aims to clarify the role of Spain and Latin America in the configuration of the global telecommunications system without any claim of completeness. More concretely, to carry out this purpose requires studying the participation of Telefonica in the creation of international infrastructures as a way of inclusion into the global telecommunications system. Thus, the author resumes the effort initiated in previous studies, thematically focused on the relationship of submarine cables and satellites with the previous stages of the internationalization. He reviews company history taking as a basis primary sources, especially from Telefonica and its group, and also important secondary bibliography.
