[ Abstract ]

The introduction of colonial territories in West Africa had the oceanic port cities as neuralgical and privileged centers. This urban places concentrated great investments to modernize infrastructures. Thus, they concentrated urban functions and culminated different processes of economic and entrepreneurial clustering. The development of modern intermodal connections (port-railway) played a key role, in order to organise and tie the producer regions in inner lands to the great oceanic ports. Hence, the modernization of transport infrastructures in West Africa made easier the increases of colonial exports transformating the whole productive system too. The port of Dakar bring us the possibility to analyse the impact of the modernization of transport infrastructures (ports and railways) over commercial activity in West Africa.
