[ Abstract ]
The examples of Bordeaux and Bilbao are used here for observing and trying to explain the interactions between the construction of the supply services networks and the development of a new municipal art since the beginning of the XX century. Only a new “urban engineering”, which under many diverse forms, were capable of associating public and private operators, seemed then adequate for providing answers to the social needs. But this model is nowadays queried.
