Introduction

TRANSPORTES, SERVICIOS Y TELECOMUNICACIONES

TST is an academic journal created in 2001 whose main purpose is to deal with the publication of research work that analyzes the evolution of the tertiary or service sector from a historical perspective, especially during the contemporary age but not only, since it also shows a particular interest in covering other previous historical periods. As it is well-known, the tertiary sector is the part of the economy that includes activities as significant as transports, trade, banking, communications or public services, among others. Its historical role has increased over the years and after the culmination of the Industrial Revolution its contribution to the GDP and to the employment has surpassed that of classic sectors, primary-agriculture and secondary-manufacturing, which were responsible for classic economic growth.

TST proposal fills the editorial void created because up to now publishing houses have not paid enough attention to scientific research on the contribution of transports, services and telecommunications to the modernization of our world’s economies and societies. That interest in economic and in social history, both clearly connected with the role of services, is completed by the inclusion of papers related to infrastructure history, technology history and, as a research line closely associated with this, to the assessment and analysis of the historical heritage of an economic sector whose problems are of a very particular nature.

TST also has a clear international vocation and does not set any limits to the geographical area tackled in the papers to be published or the language in which these papers are disseminated. There are no barriers other than freedom of thought, approach diversity and the accuracy and systematization which must characterize scientific work. The intention behind this is to serve as a vehicle for communication between researchers and those companies and institutions that nowadays lead this activity as well as between both groups and the society as a whole, encouraging, all in all, a constant reflection that will be useful for everyone in general. Therefore, our task is especially aimed at the establishment of strong links with the most relevant companies and institutions, since they hold a past that has contributed to the modernization of the economy and society into which they integrate.
